5 Things on Friday #63 – Training, GeoPlatform, AWS, and Open Reef Conservation

Time for another 5 Things on Friday, our first one of the summer! We’ve shared some useful tidbits this week, including: an amazing training catalog from Esri, a fun but interesting map from down-under, a look at Geoplatform.gov, some interesting training for those interested in AWS managed services, and a fabulous conservation group doing great work in Belize. Got a tip for a future edition? Please share with us in a comment below or on Twitter @geojobegis

Search the Esri Training Catalog

Esri training offers instructor-led classes, self-paced courses, and other resources to learn ArcGIS and improve your GIS skills and understanding. There’s definitely something here for everyone! Start your selection by browsing by interest (for example, analytics, mobility, or data management), or browse the extensive catalog by product, including ArcGIS Pro, Survey123, City Engine and more. Note, not all courses are free.

Maps we Think are Cool!

Here’s a cool map that our COO, David Hansen stumbled onto in Reddit. The map does an excellent job of using color to share some interesting data. Each colored area contains 1/4 or the population of Australia. If you wanted to carve up the country into regions of similar population, this is a good starting point. Fun with maps indeed! Geoplatform.Gov

The GeoPlatform provides shared and trusted geospatial data, services, and applications for use by the public and by government agencies and partners to meet their mission needs. Find new, trending, and noteworthy items – such as data, web services, press releases, articles, and more. According to the site, the content changes frequently, so stay tuned. You’ll find resources to assist with keeping track of hurricanes, wildfires, and other major events. This is also a gateway to Data.gov and the agency’s marketplace of data and apps – a one-stop shop that delivers trusted, consistent data and services for any government agency to access, use, analyze, and share geospatial data.
