Ah yes, conferences. There’s so many to pick and choose from, some are huge, some are small and personal, some are virtual, others require you to travel a great distance as much expense to enjoy. Selecting which events to attend can be a challenge indeed but there are some great choices out there. The following are just a few of the coming GIS/Geo events of interest that you might wish to consider attending.

THE International Conference for Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial, the event changes location every year, this year being hosted in Boston. The annual FOSS4G conference is the largest global gathering focused on open source geospatial software. FOSS4G brings together developers, users, decision-makers and observers from a broad spectrum of organizations and fields of operation. Through six days of workshops, presentations, discussions, and cooperation, FOSS4G participants create effective and relevant geospatial products, standards, and protocols.
InterDrone 2017, Sept 6-8, Las Vegas, NV
A 3-day UAV conference and expo hall filled with more than 185 unmanned system manufacturers and sellers. The full commercial drone conference features more than 120 panels, sessions, classes and drone workshops where you can learn everything from how to get your Part 107 Pilot’s license to how to use UAVs for agriculture, construction, infrastructure inspection or aerial photography.

INTERGEO, Sept. 26-28, 2017, Berlin
Perhaps the largest geotech event in the World, INTERGEO brings together more than 20,000 professionals from around the World. A heavy European influence, the event is a massive show for the GIS, surveying, and mapping industry. The conference, which has around 1,300 participants, deals with current issues from politics, administration, science and industry. At last year’s leading trade fair, more than 17,000 visitors discovered the latest innovations from 531 companies from 37 different countries.
GIS in The Rockies – Sept 20-21, 2017, Denver CO
Colorado’s premier regional event, GIS in the Rockies brings together GIS and mapping professionals from around the Front Range for 2 days. Historically, attendees have included representatives from local, state, and federal government, the utilities industry, environmental services, land surveying professionals, the oil and gas industry, students, educational practitioners, and retail and business marketing professionals.
Commercial UAV Expo – Oct 24-26, 2017, Las Vegas NV
A popular, must event for professionals interested in UAV mapping technologies. Sessions and training focus on 3D, drone mapping and related technologies. The second edition of Commercial UAV Expo in 2016 hit it out of the park, with 170 booths of the latest drone technology for industrial applications and 1,720 commercial attendees. In 2017,
GeoCONX – Sept. 5-8, 2017, Chicago, IL
A newly re-branded conference from Esri for those in the utilities sector, particular electrical, gas and telecom. Esri GeoConX is the industry-leading event where professionals from Esri’s Electric and Gas User Group (EGUG) and Telecommunications User Group (TelUG) converge to network, collaborate, and learn as a larger, unified community.
DroneWorld Expo – Oct 3-4, 2017, San Jose CA
Coinciding with commercial drone week (Oct 1-6) , thought leaders, industry experts and end-users will gather at Drone World Expo in the heart of Silicon Valley to present real-world solutions to your business and environmental challenges. Expect more than 3,000 attendees at this event.
GIS Pro 2017 – Oct 23-26, 2017, Jacksonville, FL

ILMF (International LiDAR Mapping Forum) Feb 5-7, 2018
Held each spring/winter in Denver, CO, ILMF is the go-to event for all things LiDAR. ILMF is a technical conference and exhibition focused on surveying and mapping technologies including aerial, mobile and bathymetric lidar as well as other emerging remote sensing technologies.
