Happy GISDay 2017! Did you know the first formal GIS Day took place in 1999. Esri president and co-founder Jack Dangermond credits Ralph Nader with being the person who inspired the creation of GIS Day. There’s events happening all over the World to celebrate this day which also coincides with Geography Awareness Week.
There’s many ways to celebrate. GIS enthusiasts and professionals all over are delivering presentations, teaching a class, hosting an open house, eating cake, tweeting, flying their drones, mapping, creating maps and apps etc… there’s many ways to celebrate! How will you celebrate? Even if you can’t get away from the office you can share your passion for all things Geo and spread the word about GIS, the Science of Where, and geographic learning. Below you’ll find a story map created by Esri where you can see events that are taking place around the World (scroll down a couple of pages to the map). Hopefully you can find a fun event in your area.
