5 Good Reasons to Add Admin Tools (V1.0.12) to Your ArcGIS Online Toolkit

You may have noticed or heard recently that Admin Tools – think Swiss Army knife for the ArcGIS professional and ArcGIS org. administrator – has just received a pretty big update. This is great news for the nearly 3,000 user organizations around the World coming from a range of industries (utilities, energy, higher education, local and county government, police, environmental orgs) that require tools to help them focus on their work and simplify the management of their ArcGIS users within their orgs.

There’s plenty of good reasons to provision this app from the ArcGIS Marketplace but to keep things simple, we’ll focus on 5 reasons.

1. Generate short URLs

Imagine, you have dozens, or perhaps hundreds of maps, webmaps and apps to maintain in your organization. Pointing users and staff to your maps can involve sharing of some pretty lengthy URL names and all it takes is for one character to get accidentally changed or removed and your users will be lost. Using this tool you can select specific ArcGIS assets (maps) and generate convenient, short urls for sharing in one step. URLs are conveniently stored as an XLS file

2. Update Users Credits

How is your ArcGIS account being used which users are using your credits? Select ‘Set allocation to’ to designate a specified amount of credits for the selected users or select or select ‘No allocated limit’ to set the users max limit to the organization’s total available credit. this tool will save your org $$ in the long run and help the Admin sleep a little better at night!

3. Add Entitlements

Imagine the scenario, you have licenses for a number of Esri, ArcGIS applications that are in heavy demand by your users. For example, you have access to an ArcGIS Pro license(s) and Drone2Map but you don’t have licenses for all users. you need an efficient way to grant user access to these apps within your organization. The Add Entitlements tool will make this a breeze for you to manage.

4. Remove Entitlements

Similar to above, in order to maximize the use of your app licenses within ArcGIS Online, you need a way to remove access permissions. Perhaps a person’s role has changed within the organization or you may be adding staff for a new project etc…  this is now easily accomplished with this tool.

5. Invite Users to Groups

Groups are a powerful way to keep projects on time and on budget. Admin Tools has a number of useful Group management and Administration tools. For example, you may need to start a new group for a project that is ramping up. Grouping your users accordingly and assigning group variables and definitions can streamline your operations. Once you create a new Group use Admin Tools to invite users in bulk to join – so easy, so fast!
