GIS Education Spotlight – The New Maps Plus Program at U of Kentucky

We love sharing educational resources and anything else that helps students and professionals alike to advance their skills and knowledge to be applied to cool GIS and GeoTech. A shout-out here to our friends at the University of Kentucky who are promoting some fine GIS and GeoTech EDU offerings.

U Kentucky

The GIS program, in particular, the New Maps Plus Program at U of K is primarily focused on web mapping along with a special focus on open source tools – javascript programming/Leaflet, UI/UX, D3.  New Map Plus courses are designed around a 10-week semester, rather than the traditional 16-week semester. Given the compressed time schedule, the coursework (both in class time and assignments) is much more intensive in order to provide the same level of instruction.

More about the program:

The online Graduate Certificate in Digital Mapping is based on a three-course sequence:

Students with sufficient experience may choose to complete the graduate certificate with MAP 672, MAP 673 and a more advanced class in web mapping (MAP 675, Collaborative Geovisualization). All courses are completely online and run for 10-week terms with the next start date on April 9th.

Admissions require a bachelor’s degree but no prior GIS or mapping experience is necessary. Deadline to apply for the Spring program is March 25, 2018.

Note: not only is the U of Kentucky a great educational resource for GIS professionals looking to get a leg up on jump-starting a career, the University is also a perfect user community to take advantage of Admin Tools (Pro) to help manage their ArcGIS Admin needs for students and faculties using their GIS facilities.
