Q&A with GEO Jobe’s Customer Success Manager Tony Saracino

GEO Jobe has been serving clients since 1999, navigating the forefront of the geospatial industry with innovative GIS and IT solutions. What’s the key to our success? It’s the faces behind our company. GEO Jobe is made up of a growing team of talented, hard-working people who each embody our company philosophy of “acknowledging the person first and the problem second.”

Here is a brief Q&A with our Customer Success Manager Anthony “Tony” Saracino, who joined GEO Jobe in 2023.

Q: What is your role at GEO Jobe, and what does it entail?
A: I am a Customer Success Manager here at GEO Jobe, and it is my responsibility to connect clients to the resources that we have that can assist them. This could be products for them to use, setting up discussions with our professional services, or introducing them to our partners and their services. If a client needs help, I am there!

Q: What has your career path at GEO Jobe looked like and what attracted you to join the team?
A: So, I actually knew a few people from the company before I knew they were with the company. We all went to the same game shop, and I played games and chatted with them there. After hearing about the company from both employees and other friends I had in the industry, I thought it definitely seemed like my kind of place. I applied and started my current position in June of 2023, and have loved it ever since!

Q: What jobs and experiences have led you to your current position?
A: I have a fairly varied work history, from clinical research to drafting. The job that probably led me to where I am now, though, is actually from growing up on my family’s renaissance faire. As part of the family business, I developed my skills to help our vendors be more successful and assisted patrons in finding the resources they needed. Overall, I wanted to make sure everyone there was having a good time and able to do what they wanted to do, no matter if they were there for work or fun.

Q: What particular skills or talents are most essential to be effective in your job?
A: In my position, I would say communication, organization, and empathy are very important skills to have. I need to be able to understand the needs, objectives, and potential problems of our clients and then connect them to available resources that can help them achieve their goals.

Q: Any advice for recent graduates entering into the job market and aspiring to a similar role?
A: Be an active listener. Roles like mine require you to understand the customer’s perspective and issues and match them to the solutions you are able to offer. If you aren’t listening to your clients and understanding their goals, then it will result in a frustrating situation for both you and them.

Q: What technologies and strategies do you use in your day-to-day work that are key to success?
A: I utilize a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) program to keep my notes, projects, and tasks organized. If you are unorganized, you will find it difficult to help clients meet different deadlines and coordinate resources productively. In addition, strategies such as SPIN and BANT are helpful for making sure that your meetings are productive, that you understand the customer’s situation, and can help establish and work through the goals that clients are trying to meet.

Q: What would you like to learn more about or incorporate into your daily work?
A: I try to always keep my ear open about changes in the GIS industry, as it is important to be knowledgeable about it so that I can assist our clients. Plus, I just love it in general. The more I learn about it, the better I get at my job and the better I am able to help people, so it’s a win-win!

Q: On a more personal side, do you have a favorite newspaper, magazine, blog, or sources of inspiration?
A: I tend to read just about anything that I think can be useful, though more recently I have found myself really enjoying the Little Red Book of Selling. It is written in a way that is both informative and entertaining, and I have found many of the points made to be both true and effective. Definitely worth a read if you are looking into a sales-type role!

Q: What kind of technology do you prefer and why?
A: I tend to lean towards PC and Android devices. I just prefer their OS and functions a bit more over Mac/iOS products. I find that PC and Android devices are more flexible for the things I both like and need to do. That said, sometimes you just can’t beat a quick pen and paper. I almost always have the two on me as a backup.

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of the office?
A: I am a huge nerd that loves to game: board games, card games, video games, and especially role-playing games. In fact, most of my free time currently is spent on a large-scale Dungeons and Dragons game that I am running at a local TTRPG store, Miles to Adventure. While I spend a lot of time working on it, it is always so cool to see people enjoying it and talking about it even outside the times they are playing!
